Thousands Flee Homes as Earthquake Shakes Southwest China Region
BEIJING — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck China’s Guangxi region early Monday, killing two people and forcing more than 7,000 residents in the city of Liuzhou to evacuate, state media reported.
Thirteen buildings collapsed in the early hours. One person remains missing, and four others were hospitalized with non‑life‑threatening injuries. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
Railway authorities warned of possible transport disruptions as they inspect rail lines. Communication and power lines, water and gas supply, and traffic in the affected area are operating normally, according to officials.
