Bollywood Star Nana Patekar Suddenly Dies at 75
Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar dies aged 75 in Goa. He was known for his fiery, intense performances on stage and screen.
Patekar, one of the most recognisable faces of Indian cinema, won three National Film Awards and was known for playing difficult and often volatile characters. He was also a leading personality in Marathi cinema and theatre.
He was found unconscious at his Goa residence in the early hours of Thursday and was rushed to a hospital. Even after 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived,” Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital in Goa told the ANI news agency. Actors and politicians across India have been paying tribute.
The hospital team found Patekar at his residence and said that he was “unconscious and almost unresponsive PTI news agency quoted Dr Salkar as saying.
The team continued to administer CPR to him on the way to the hospital, which was about 10 minutes away, but he had died by the time they arrived, he said. Dr Salkar said Patekar had a cardiac arrest but it was not known what had caused it.
Family, friends and fans paid their last respects to the actor at Goa Medical College ahead of his funeral later in the day with full state honours at his farmhouse in the western city of Pune in Maharashtra state.
