Saudi Statistics Chief Highlights Data and AI Integration at Global Data Festival
NAIROBI — Saudi Arabia’s chief statistician used a major international data summit in Kenya to promote preparations for the 2026 UN World Data Forum in Riyadh and highlight the Kingdom’s work in blending artificial intelligence, geospatial information, and statistical systems to support sustainable development.
Fahad Al‑Dossari, president of the General Authority for Statistics, led the Saudi delegation to the Global Data Festival held June 2‑5 in Nairobi. Speaking at the closing ceremony, he said the Kingdom remains committed to strengthening data systems, supporting innovation, and expanding international cooperation through advanced technologies. Integrating official statistics, geospatial data, and computing tools, he noted, is critical for tackling development challenges and improving decision‑making.
On the sidelines, Al‑Dossari met with international organizations and national statistics agencies to discuss the “Road to Riyadh” initiative and align outcomes from the Nairobi festival with the UN World Data Forum scheduled for November 9‑12, 2026 in Riyadh.
The Nairobi event marked the first time the Global Data Festival has been held in Africa, drawing more than 1,500 delegates from about 90 countries. It ran alongside the Kenya Space Expo and focused on using data, computing, and space technologies to address climate change, food security, and economic growth.
