NEW YORK — Meta is investing $115 million to launch a training program for data center technician jobs, as the social media giant races to build the physical infrastructure needed for its computing ambitions.

The cost‑free program, called America’s Workforce Academy, will end in guaranteed job offers for graduates, the company said. Training will be generalist in nature, preparing workers for full‑time roles with contractors building out Meta’s data centers.

The Associated Builders and Contractors, a construction trade group, expects to train thousands of people through the initiative. “The artificial intelligence revolution is bringing change but also historic opportunities,” said Meta president Dina Powell McCormick.

The investment is part of Meta’s $600 billion pledge to US infrastructure and jobs over the next three years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been hiring aggressively to develop digital assistants that can act autonomously. The company recently laid off 10 percent of its workforce while reassigning many others to units focused on improving its core models and tools.

Data centers typically create a surge of construction jobs but relatively few permanent roles. A Meta facility in Texas, for example, is projected to employ over 1,800 workers at peak construction but only about 100 once operational.
