Why Melissa Barrera Continues to Amplify Pro-Palestinian Voices

Mexican actress Melissa Barrera is building a new production company focused on supporting Palestinian voices and providing opportunities for artists who have publicly backed the cause, she revealed in a recent interview with Variety.

The move comes after her high‑profile firing from the “Scream” franchise in 2023, following social media posts that criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza and called for a ceasefire. At the time, Spyglass Media said it had “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate.”

Barrera, who is currently making her Broadway debut in the musical “Titanique,” told Variety she has been “keeping track” of fellow actors who defended her, including Susan Sarandon, Tatiana Maslany, and Javier Bardem. “I do believe in building a network of people who are like‑minded. For me, this is chapter two,” she said.

Looking back on the backlash, Barrera told The Independent that period was “the darkest and hardest year of my life.” She is now set to star in the upcoming horror feature “Inhabit,” marking her return to the genre.
