Uthi Strikes destroy Riyadh Infrastructure, Halt Flights
US President Donald Trump continues to say that US and Iran are having fruitful conversations but attacks in the region have escalated with Houthis claiming repeated attacks on Riyadh’s airport on Thursday shifting the epicentre of the fight to that front.
Trump seemed to dismiss suggestions that he would launch large-scale military operations against Iran, saying the US would not attack the Islamic Republic before the midterm elections in November.
Flights to and from Riyadh have been delayed and cancelled owing to Houthi attacks, and the Iran-backed group has urged staff at Saudi oil companies to stay away from the facilities. Stay tuned to Khaleej Times for the latest updates from across the region.
France and Saudi Arabia are looking at several options involving French military assets to help protect the Yanbu oil terminal, France’s Armed Forces Chief of Staff, General Fabien Mandon, said Thursday, AFP reported.We are now in the study phase with Saudi Arabia. “We are exploring various options to secure the attacked Yanbu terminal which is critical to hydrocarbon trade,” Mandon told a parliamentary session.
France has already deployed about 2,000 troops in the region to help secure Gulf allies, including Qatar and Kuwait, he said. Eslami’s remarks follow the flurry of ideas in recent weeks from both Iran and the United States aimed at ending the war at and reopening the crucial global energy shipping route via the Strait of Hormuz.
