Ukraine’s President Volodymr Zelensky has criticised Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement to import Russian fuel into the US.

It was a present to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky said, a “investment in a war that must be stopped, not prolonged.”

The Putin deal, he agreed to release 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately to the American and global marketplace, then 500,000 tonnes in November and then a million more after that,” Trump added.

Under the accord, the US Treasury is reportedly delaying sanctions on Russian diesel exports until April 7, while other assets, such as those held in American institutions, remain frozen.

In addition, Trump said in his Truth Social post, “within a short period,” depending on the state of its refineries, three million more tonnes of Russian diesel would be delivered, which have been targeted by Ukraine.

Earlier this year, Russia restricted diesel exports. Putin later stated Russia was ready to sell oil and petroleum products to the US and worldwide markets, but did not specify numbers in his remarks.

Zelensky stated on a social media post that Russia would pay for the diesel with “more terror”.We are counting on fair assistance from America for our defence of life, for our defence of the people in Ukraine  and on the United States having an equally strong talk with Russia. ‘A strong one, not a weak one,’ he wrote.
