Mexican Court Condemns Three Men for Killing Australian, US Surfers
The trial for the triple homicide that shocked Mexico and made international headlines wrapped up Friday after Judge Raul Hernandez in the coastal city of Ensenada found Jesus Gerardo Garcia, alias El Kekas, Irineo Francisco and Angel Jesus “N” guilty of the murders of Australians Callum and Jake Robinson, 30 and 33, respectively, and American Carter Redd Rhoad, 30.
The offenders, who had been in detention for over two years, were also convicted of armed robbery and armed carjacking.
Today’s guilty verdict is a significant moment in our long and painful journey to seek justice for our beautiful sons, Callum and Jake and their friend Carter Rhoad, whose lives were so cruelly taken from them in 2024,” said father Martin Robinson.
The trio went to Baja California in April 2024 to surf, camping near the coastal city of Ensenada, but were reported missing shortly after landing in the village of Punta San Jose, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) from Ensenada. Their victims were discovered on May 3 in a well, all with gunshot wounds to their heads.
Garcia, who was recognised as the murderer, was arrested in May 2024 in relation to the case, along with his ex-partner Ary Gisell Silva Raya, Francisco and Jesus.
The month-long trial revealed horrifying details of the terrible crime. Silva Raya said at a hearing last month that Garcia told her he carried a 9mm pistol when he went to the tent where the foreigners were staying.
