Razane Jammal Starts Awards Season With a Winning Moment
British Lebanese actor Razane Jammal kicked off awards season in style, taking home the Best Actress in a Cinematic Role award at the 17th edition of the Arab Satellite Festival in Cairo, dressed in an all-black gown from Lebanese designer Georges Chakra.
Jammal marked the win on Instagram, saying she was incredibly proud to accept the honor for her role in “Asad.” In a heartfelt tribute, she wrote that her character, Layla, reminds her of her own mother, a strong-willed woman ahead of her time who defied social norms, spoke out against injustice, and fiercely protected the people she loved. She dedicated the award to her mother’s memory.
“Asad” is directed by Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab, known for helming Marvel’s “Moon Knight,” and stars Jammal alongside Egyptian actor Mohamed Ramadan. The cast also includes Maged El-Kedwany, Khaled El-Sawy, Sherif Salama and Ahmed Abdelhamid. Jammal, recognized for her roles in Netflix’s “The Sandman” and “Paranormal,” leads an action-romance set in the 1800s that drew on roughly 2,000 extras and large-scale action sequences designed by stunt coordinator Kaloyan Vodenicharov. A trailer Jammal shared last year showed dramatic stunt work, including her character being dragged by a horse, alongside glimpses of a developing romance between her character and Ramadan’s.
The Cairo win follows another striking red carpet moment earlier this month, when Jammal wore a sleeveless red gown from Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2026 collection, designed by Wes Gordon, to the Murex d’Or 2026 ceremony, featuring a rounded neckline and dramatic side cutouts, paired with a red clutch and pointed-toe lace heels.
Beyond acting, Jammal expanded into publishing in June with the release of her own children’s book, “Lulu and Blu,” published by Turning Point Books and illustrated by Lebanese artist Sasha Haddad, a 2014 graduate of Cambridge School of Arts.
