Meta Rolls out Muse Wonder AI Models to Take on Anthropic and OpenAI
Meta on Monday released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, calling them its most capable AI models yet, as the social media giant tries to compete more aggressively with OpenAI and Anthropic. Meta shares were up roughly 4% in midday trading.
That follows CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s promise to aggressively poach researchers and spend billions over the past year to catch up in Silicon Valley’s escalating AI race.
Meta said Muse Wonder will soon be used for its Muse personal AI agent, starting with subscribers, and the more powerful Muse Wonder Full model is available to subscribers to its AI coding tool Muse Code. Fourteen months ago we started an overhaul of our AI efforts, and in that time we’ve gone from rebuilding our foundations to pushing the frontier, Meta said in a blog post.
Meta’s successful launch of its personal AI agent Muse last month could open a profitable way to monetise its significant AI investments through subscriptions, even as it wrestles with user privacy concerns. Meta rolled out its Spark model in April, shifting away from its open-source Llama approach, which was falling behind the rest of the industry.
The new models will soon be available for Meta’s new personal agent app called Muse, for paying subscribers only.
Over the last year or so, Zuckerberg has pushed Meta to compete with top AI labs, especially OpenAI and Anthropic, to attract customers and diversify beyond advertising, which has long been its main revenue source.
In June 2025, the business invested US$14 billion in San Francisco-based AI startup Scale AI and poached its co-founder, Alexandr Wang, as part of the purchase.
