Etihad Stops Flights to And From Riyadh Airport Until 19 October
Saudi Arabia has prolonged the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh after weekend attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels left scores dead. The General Authority of Civil Aviation said on Monday the suspension would remain in place until checks on the safety and operational suitability of airport installations were completed. It did not specify a date or time for the reopening of the airport.
Etihad Airways has halted all flights between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh until Monday October 19, extending the disruption to services between the UAE and the Saudi capital into next week. Flydubai has also cancelled flights to Riyadh till Wednesday, October 14. Emirates and Air Arabia services have also been affected.
The disruption is not confined to Riyadh, with flights to and from other Saudi destinations such as Dammam, Jeddah and Abha all cancelled. As of 4pm UAE time Monday, 46.4 per cent of scheduled flights across the country had been cancelled, aviation analytics firm Cirium said.
Air Arabia’s official flight status website shows flights G9151 and G9154 from Sharjah to Riyadh cancelled on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Flight G9195 from Sharjah to Abha is likewise shown as cancelled on both dates. If your flight has been cancelled, please contact the airline or travel agent about rebooking and refund possibilities. Those who have further connections should see whether they need to change other parts of their trip.
