Chinese Star Shan Yichun Makes a Style Statement in Georges Hobeika

Chinese singer-songwriter Shan Yichun, best known as the youngest star to win “The Voice of China,” turned heads in a gown by Lebanese couturier Georges Hobeika at the seventh Tencent Music Entertainment Awards, held at the Galaxy Arena in Macau.

The rich purple gown came from the label’s Fall 2024 haute couture collection, featuring a sleek, floor-length silhouette with fitted long sleeves and a square neckline. Its crepe-like fabric created an elegant column shape, while a dramatic band of plum-toned feathers wrapped around the waist and hips served as the look’s standout detail.

Georges Hobeika unveiled its latest collection at Paris Haute Couture Week in July. Hobeika and his son, Jad, presented a lineup inspired by James McCrae’s poem “Instructions Before Visiting Earth,” channeling its themes of curiosity, compassion, and wonder. The show’s front row drew an international crowd, including Moroccan-Canadian singer Faouzia, Lebanese content creator Nour Rizk, influencer Becca Bloom, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, and Tunisian presenter Myriem Boukadida.

Crafted across the fashion house’s Beirut and Paris ateliers, the collection showcased the label’s signature craftsmanship, with intricate embroidery, shimmering beadwork, and fluid fabrics evoking the movement of water. Lace emerged as a defining material throughout, paired with a color palette spanning soft blues, muted beige, and sage green to dusty rose, with striking black ensembles adding contrast.

Georges Hobeika founded his Beirut-based label in 1995, and it has since become a regular presence on the Paris Haute Couture calendar. Last year marked the brand’s 30th anniversary, celebrated with a short documentary in which Jad reflected on working alongside his father and carrying the label’s legacy forward. In the video, Jad described his father as a perfectionist who built something unmatched in the region, while noting his own instinct to experiment and push beyond convention — all in service of building on the foundation his father created.
