Why Javier Bardem Believes Global Opinion on Gaza Is Shifting
CANNES — Spanish actor Javier Bardem told AFP at the Cannes Film Festival that he is “getting more work than ever” despite his outspoken criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza, a sign he believes the global narrative is changing.
The Oscar winner, known for “No Country for Old Men,” used his stage time at the Oscars in February to state “No to war and a free Palestine.” While other pro‑Palestinian figures like Susan Sarandon have reported losing work, Bardem said the opposite is happening for him.
“In fact, it’s the opposite, they’re calling even more because the narrative is changing,” Bardem said. “Now it’s no longer as controlled by those who have always controlled it.”
Bardem is at Cannes promoting “The Beloved,” a drama about a film director returning to Spain to shoot a movie with his estranged daughter. The film also touches on Spain’s former colonial occupation of Western Sahara.
