Championing Global Harmony: A Conversation with Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan
We recently had the privilege of speaking with Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace. A dedicated and proactive leader, Mr. Al Jarwan is driven by a profound commitment to fostering tolerance and peace within Arab and global communities. With extensive experience in guiding impactful projects, he shared profound insights into the Council’s mission, its significant achievements, and his vision for a more harmonious world.
The Founding Vision of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace
We began our conversation by exploring the Council’s origins. “Could you describe the vision and primary goals of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace when it was first established?” we asked.
Mr. Al Jarwan elaborated, “The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace was founded with the grand vision of cultivating a global environment where tolerance and peace can flourish. Formally declared in November 2017 in Valletta, Malta, the Council embodies a commitment to promoting noble human objectives across all borders.”
He added, “Our primary aim was to address global challenges by promoting dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among nations. We sought to foster a sense of collective responsibility for tolerance and peace, one that transcends geopolitical boundaries and cultural divides. By combating intolerance, discrimination, and conflict, and by advocating for policies that promote equality and human rights, we work towards creating a more just and harmonious world. Our vision is rooted in the unwavering principles of human dignity, equality, and peace.”
Significant Initiatives and Milestones

Eager to learn about the Council’s work in practice, we inquired, “As President, what have been some of the most significant initiatives you have led?”
Mr. Al Jarwan highlighted several key achievements. “One of our most notable accomplishments has been the establishment of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP). Through determined efforts, we successfully brought together representatives from over 100 state members, creating a dynamic platform for global cooperation.”
He continued, “We have also forged strategic partnerships by signing Memorandums of Understanding with various national and international parliaments and organizations. Furthermore, I am particularly proud of establishing the General Assembly for Tolerance and Peace, which unites 50 universities, NGOs, and individuals worldwide to inspire innovative initiatives. Our academic collaborations, including a Master’s program in Tolerance Studies and Global Peace, have provided scholarships to a diverse group of students, underscoring our commitment to education and dialogue.”
Engaging the World and Celebrating Success

To understand the Council’s global outreach, we asked, “How does the Council engage with different countries and international organizations?”
“The Council engages through its two main organs, the IPTP and the General Assembly,” Mr. Al Jarwan explained. “We sign Memorandums of Understanding, participate in international forums, host sessions and workshops worldwide, and form academic partnerships. We also support civil society initiatives and collaborate with multilateral organizations like the UN and EU to influence global policies on tolerance and peace.”
When asked for a specific success story, he pointed to the IPTP. “The establishment of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace stands as a profound achievement. It serves as a global legislative body where parliamentarians from diverse backgrounds can engage in dialogue, share best practices, and advocate for measures that uphold tolerance. Its work in adopting joint resolutions and its collaboration with bodies like the Inter-Parliamentary Union have made a tangible impact on promoting peace and understanding globally.”
Navigating Challenges and Evolving Concepts
Addressing the realities of his work, we questioned, “What challenges does the Council face in its mission, and how do you address them?”
“Navigating a complex geopolitical landscape with persistent conflicts is a significant challenge,” he acknowledged. “We address this through steadfast diplomacy, dialogue, and engagement. We also counter extremist ideologies by promoting education and inclusion, and we overcome resource constraints by building strong partnerships. Our commitment remains unwavering, and we continuously adapt our strategies to build more resilient societies.”
We were also curious about the evolving nature of his work. “How has the concept of tolerance evolved in recent years, and what role does the Council play in shaping this narrative?”
“Tolerance has evolved from merely accepting differences to actively embracing diversity and promoting inclusivity,” Mr. Al Jarwan observed. “The Council plays a central role in this evolution by highlighting our shared humanity and interconnectedness. Through education, awareness campaigns, and advocacy, we challenge stereotypes and champion tolerance as a fundamental human right essential for sustainable development and prosperity.”
Future Endeavors and a Message for the Next Generation
Looking ahead, we asked, “Could you discuss any upcoming projects that the Council is particularly excited about?”
“We are very excited about several new initiatives,” he shared. “We are exploring ‘Business Diplomacy’ to engage private sector leaders in fostering understanding. We are also establishing a platform for religious leaders to collaborate and promote coexistence. The ‘Global Tolerance & Peace Lab’ will serve as an innovation hub, and we are launching Student Clubs and a Doctoral Program in Tolerance and Peace to deepen engagement and knowledge in the field.”
Finally, we sought his guidance for aspiring changemakers. “What message would you like to leave for the younger generation who are inspired by the Council’s work?”
“To the younger generation, I convey a message of hope and empowerment,” he said. “You are the future leaders and changemakers. Your passion, creativity, and determination are invaluable. Remain committed to the values of tolerance, understanding, and compassion. Embrace diversity, seek to engage with others, and remember that change begins with small actions. Your voice matters, and your actions have the potential to shape a better future. Together, let us continue to work towards a more peaceful, tolerant, and inclusive world for all.”
