Saudi Arabia Accelerates Creative Innovation with AI-Powered Cultural Programs
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia is preparing to roll out a new generation of cultural initiatives driven by advanced technologies, aiming to boost innovation, improve efficiency at creative institutions, and help Saudi artists expand their reach both domestically and internationally.
On Monday, the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Development Fund signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Data and Smart Technology Authority to explore joint programs serving the cultural sector, creators, and cultural enterprises. The move aligns with the Kingdom’s designation of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence.
Raed bin Khalil Al Eid, a cultural innovation adviser, said the agreement reflects growing recognition of technology’s role in the future of culture. He noted that a specialized study documented applications of smart systems across all 16 cultural sectors officially recognized in Saudi Arabia, including heritage, museums, libraries, literature, music, theater, film, architecture, fashion, and culinary arts.
Al Eid emphasized that the Ministry of Culture’s primary role is to create an enabling environment by establishing policies, regulations, and professional standards covering intellectual property, data, and ethics. This would allow private companies, nonprofits, and community initiatives to develop solutions with confidence.
The cultural sector is already undergoing rapid digital transformation, with further momentum expected as Saudi Arabia marks 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence. Competitions and hackathons have been launched to attract innovators and encourage development across cultural fields. For Saudi artists, the initiative opens new opportunities to combine human creativity with smart capabilities across a wide range of creative disciplines.
