French Moroccan actress Nadia Farès has died at the age of 57, just over a week after being found unconscious in a swimming pool at a Paris gym.

Farès was discovered on April 11 at a private club in the city’s 9th arrondissement and had remained in a coma until her death on Friday, her daughters confirmed.

“France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother we have just lost,” they said in a statement.

The actress rose to international fame in 2000 with her role in “The Crimson Rivers” (“Les Rivières Pourpres”), starring alongside Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel. She later appeared in the 2007 action thriller “War” with Jason Statham and Jet Li, as well as the horror film “Storm Warning.”

Farès was set to begin work on a new action-comedy project in September, which would have marked her debut as a screenwriter and director.
