Judge Ordered Trump to Sit for Interview in BBC false Accusation Claim by December 11

A US federal court on Thursday ordered President Donald Trump to appear for a deposition by December 11 in his $10 billion (£7.7 billion) defamation case against the BBC. Lawyers for the BBC had accused Trump of stalling to avoid appearing and a US magistrate judge, Enjolique Lett, issued an order.

If Trump fails to comply, he might face consequences including the likely dismissal of his lawsuit, unless the discovery period is extended beyond 18 December.

“We still haven’t been able to depose the plaintiff with two months left in the discovery period,” said Charles Tobin, an attorney for the BBC. Trump sued the BBC in December 2025, claiming the British broadcaster defamed him and engaged in misleading and unfair commercial practices in a documentary called Trump: A Second Chance.

The 33-page suit accused the station of providing a “false, defamatory, deceptive, disparaging, inflammatory and malicious depiction of President Trump,” calling it “a brazen attempt to interfere in and influence” the 2024 US presidential election.

The BBC said it had cut and edited parts of Trump’s address on January 6, 2021, to make it seem he had incited violence at the US Capitol. The broadcaster apologised and two senior officials resigned but denied slander.
