JEDDAH — The International Committee of the Red Cross has begun operating cargo flights from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to deliver humanitarian aid and personnel to Sudan more quickly.

Located just one hour from Port Sudan, Jeddah serves as a strategic hub, allowing the ICRC to deploy teams into and out of Sudan with greater speed and flexibility.

“Every day matters when responding to the immense humanitarian needs in Sudan,” said Patrick Youssef, ICRC’s regional director for Africa. He thanked Saudi and Sudanese authorities for facilitating the arrangement.

The ICRC has worked in Sudan since 1978, supporting health services, water infrastructure, and family links for those affected by conflict.
