The Tribeca Film Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an ambitious 2026 lineup that includes “Only What We Carry,” an intimate ensemble drama featuring Sofia Boutella alongside an impressive cast including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Simon Pegg, and Quentin Tarantino.

Running June 3-14 in New York City, this year’s festival will showcase 118 feature films spanning diverse genres and international perspectives. The announcement signals Tribeca’s continued commitment to championing fresh voices and innovative storytelling.

A Unique Collaboration on the Normandy Coast

“Only What We Carry” stands out for its ambitious creative approach. Welsh filmmaker Jamie Adams directed the project, which was shot in just six days on the picturesque Normandy coast with much of the dialogue developed through improvisation. This unconventional production method creates an immediacy and authenticity that promises to distinguish the film from more traditional dramas.

Boutella plays Charlotte Levant, a renowned Moulin Rouge performer whose public success conceals growing emotional turmoil. She returns to Deauville with her sister Josephine, portrayed by Gainsbourg, where buried secrets resurface and new romances ignite. Their carefully maintained dynamics shift as they interact with a wealthy patron, played by Tarantino, and a young couple played by Lizzy McAlpine and Liam Hellmann.

“Long-buried secrets and emerging romances bubble up and boil over between a dancer, her sister, her former choreographer, and his visiting friend,” according to the film’s official description. The minimal six-day shooting schedule and improvisational approach suggest a rawness that could resonate with festival audiences seeking authentic human drama.

A Festival of Star Power and Diverse Storytelling

Beyond “Only What We Carry,” the festival lineup features an impressive roster of established actors in compelling new projects. Alicia Vikander and Wagner Moura appear in “The Last Day,” while Paul Rudd headlines “Rain Reign.” Zach Braff leads “Clean Hands,” and an ensemble including Vera Farmiga, Tim Blake Nelson, Jim Parsons, and Simon Rex star in “The Leader.”

“The Revisionist” brings together powerhouse talent with Alison Brie, Andre Holland, Tom Sturridge, and Dustin Hoffman, while Holland also appears in “They Fight” alongside Wendell Pierce and Samira Wiley. Marc Maron leads “In Memoriam.”

Sofia Boutella’s Strong Year

For Boutella, 2026 is proving to be a standout year. Beyond “Only What We Carry,” she recently premiered “Dreamquil” at South by Southwest in March. That science-fiction thriller explores a dystopian near-future where a woman returning from a virtual retreat finds her worst fears realized when a helper robot designed to assist her family begins to invade her life and identity.

The pairing of these two contrasting projects—an intimate improvised drama and a speculative science-fiction thriller—demonstrates Boutella’s range and the industry’s confidence in her ability to anchor diverse narratives.

The Tribeca Film Festival’s 25th edition promises to deliver the discovery, artistry, and star power that have made it one of the film world’s most anticipated annual events.
