Trump Stops the Livestream of the Execution by the Firing Squad of the Fort Hood Attacker

US President Donald Trump has abandoned plans to webcast the execution of former US army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan by firing squad. Trump claimed earlier that he was fine with the Fort Hood attacker’s killing being shown however, Vice President JD Vance said he was not sure it would be and that he would not watch it.

Trump’s decision to cut off the broadcast came after mounting criticism at home and abroad. On Thursday he said: ‘There are many very kind and well-meaning people who would rather not watch him die.’Streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to see how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan, Trump said. He will be executed as scheduled by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed,” the president continued in Truth Social post.

In 2009, Hasan killed 13 unarmed US military personnel and injured 32 others at a military base in Texas. He will be the first military death by firing squad in more than 60 years.

The victims’ families still have the option to see the execution in person if they wish to,” Trump stated. More than 2,700 people were executed in 17 countries last year, yet only two of those executions took place in public. At least 11 state executions were reported to have taken place in Iran and another six in Afghanistan in 2025, Amnesty International said.

Trump’s decision to cancel the livestream of his execution “comes as no surprise,” said Hasan’s attorney John Galligan, who mostly handles civil matters for Hasan.“It was a dumb decision and statement by Hegseth to livestream an execution, and it violated the Army’s own regulation,” Galligan said.
