Multiple Explosions Reported in Kyiv During Missile Warning
Early on Tuesday, Russian forces launched fresh attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killing more than four people with dozens of others wounded.
The latest attacks came after a day when drones hit the National Academy of Sciences on Monday, in which two people were killed, and one person’s body was recovered later in the evening.
Former Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council Secretary Volodymyr Horbulin was at the work academy when drones hit it. Horbulin said his assistant, who was near the building, was killed in the attack, and he himself suffered minor injuries.
In a statement following the attack, the academy described it as an act of “Russian terror” and barbarity, saying that it had targeted those “peaceful people who were simply at their workplaces.”
The Ukrainian Air Force warned the people by writing “New ballistic missiles are heading toward Kyiv” on Telegram.
Several journalists over there in Ukraine’s capital reported a combined drone and missile attack.
In a Telegram update, the State Emergency Services (DSNS) reported one injured person in the Russian attack.
“A strike on a six-story residential building was recorded in the Holosiivskyi district. One person was injured, and 10 others were evacuated to safety,” the report stated.
Air Force reported that Russian forces launched a Zircon? Onyx anti-ship missiles, two Iskander -M/S-400 ballistic missiles, 152 Shahed-type attack drones- 82 of them jet-powered as well as Gerbera and Parodiya decoy drones between 6 p.m. on 28th of September and early morning on Sep 29.
The Defence Forces of Ukraine, however, repelled the attack using aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare, unmanned system units and mobile fire groups.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X that he condemned Monday’s strikes and said Russia will soon face its consequences.
He said, “Every Russian terrorist attack results in casualties that could have been prevented had the pressure on Russia finally become total,” and urged stronger international action against those who are financing and producing Russia’s weapons.
