Dubai: The UAE has announced three initiatives with the World Economic Forum (WEF) a $1 million Global Innovation Challenge on agentic artificial intelligence, a centre to translate emerging technologies and economic opportunities into policy, and a program to highlight 20 future leaders under 30.

Mohammad Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs, unveiled the projects at the opening plenary of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils, which brings together leaders and entrepreneurs from over 100 nations.

He said the UAE-WEF partnership will create the Global Centre for Future Prospects to integrate technological developments and economic prospects into policy. The gathering is taking place against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, including the US-Iran war, now well into its ninth month, and expanding to additional countries throughout the region. The fighting adds to anxiety regarding security, trade, oil prices and the broader global economy.

“Since 2008, the UAE’s partnership with the WEF has grown through initiatives that have brought together world leaders to discuss emerging challenges,” added Al Gergawi. This summit begins a new chapter, a chapter for future global leaders.

18 years ago, in this very place, we wondered how we could prepare for the future. “How do we lead a future that is constantly changing the rules?” he remarked. “The world has not just changed the rules of change have changed.

He saw three main changes in the world: shifts in the balance of power, rapid progress in technology and artificial intelligence, and growing demands on resources, energy, and the climate.
