UAE-India Airfares Will Climb as IndiGo Boosts Gasoline Prices on October 6 US-Iran Tensions
IndiGo’s announcement of higher fuel prices on international flights has put further upward pressure on airfares between the UAE and India. The airline cited a persistent rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) costs due to ongoing geopolitical concerns in the Middle East.
On Monday, IndiGo announced that starting at 12:01 am on October 6, it would apply the additional fees to all bookings. The new fuel rate for flights from the GCC to the Middle East, including the UAE, is INR5,500 (about Dh215) each sector, irrespective of the distance flown.
“Indigo has implemented a measured and relatively modest adjustment to minimise the impact on customers,” the airline stated, adding that a much bigger rise in fuel charges would have been necessary to match the increase in fuel prices.
IndiGo will keep an eye on petrol costs and make more changes “as and when appropriate,” the company stated.
The company has revised its foreign gasoline charges. For SAARC travels up to 500km, the new rates are INR1,000. For SAARC routes above 500km, the new rates are INR3,000. Southeast Asia, GCC, the Middle East, North and East Asia, and Africa each pay INR6,000, while Europe pays INR10,000. Starting October 6, the fees will apply to all new ticket purchases in addition to the base price.
After announcing that ATF costs had more than doubled in a month, the airline raised its fuel fee for international routes in April. Prices for flights inside the GCC and the Middle East were around Dh115 for trips under 2,000 km and Dh191 for routes beyond that distance.
