UAE-Jordan Launch $2.5bn Railway to Connect Aqaba with Mining Areas
His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Aqaba Al-Shidiyeh Maan Railway Project.
The Jordan-UAE Railway Company is planning the project with a joint UAE-Jordanian investment of about US$2.5 billion, including the creation of a 403-kilometre rail network.
This step comes in line with the vision and directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, to cement a sustainable strategic partnership between the two countries through joint action and strengthened frameworks for cooperation and coordination for the benefit of the peoples of the two nations.
The strategic project, the largest in the railway sector in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, seeks to connect the city of Aqaba with key mining and production sites and the Maan Logistics Zone, forming an integrated system for bulk cargo and container transport between ports, production centres and inland logistics facilities, which will reduce pressure on the road network and support the transition to a more efficient and sustainable transport system.
Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasised the strength and depth of the fraternal relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the close cooperation and continued coordination between the two countries in various fields, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State of the UAE, and His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
