Alibaba’s Shares Jump 5% Following Fresh AI Developments
Alibaba introduced the Zhenwu V 900, the next-generation AI chip, at its cloud unit’s annual flagship Apsara conference in Hangzhou.
On Tuesday Alibaba Group announced that it is making bigger moves in the world of artificial intelligence with the introduction of a new chip and a more advanced AI model. Soon after the announcement at Alibaba’s Cloud’s annual Apsara conference, Alibaba’s shares saw a great jump of around 5% as investors responded positively to the company’s AI developments.
CEO Eddie Wu said that the new Zhenwu V900 chip is the most powerful AI chip in China. This chip is meant to support the training of the future Qwen models. It is developed by Alibaba’s T-Head semiconductor unit, which is designed in order to support both AI model training and inference.
Alibaba said that Zhenwu is expected to deliver three times what Alibaba’s current M890 chip is performing.
Supply of Machine Thinking
In the latest speech on September 22 at the Yunqi Conference, he said
“The total amount of machine thinking will be 10 times that of human thinking.”
With the unveiling of a new artificial intelligence chip, the company is planning for more powerful models, including what it said was the Chinese’s most powerful AI chip.
Wu Yong Ming said that helping people program and write reports is only the primary stage of machine intelligence.
This suggests that AI’s current role in helping people write reports, generate content, and assist with coding represents only the beginning of its potential.
In his view, AI will play a more active role in professional and industrial operations in the coming years. AI systems will be capable of handling more complex and industry-specific tasks.
Zhenwu V900 Performance
The chip Zhenwu V900 is expected to deliver triple the performance of AIDS predecessor the ZhenwuM890.
It is designed to operate in massive clusters of up to 5 lakh combined units and is expected to be commercially released and mass-produced in the first quarter of 2027.
A Step Towards Large-Scale AI Computing
The development of the Zhenwu V900 highlights the growing focus on building powerful AI computing infrastructure capable of handling increasingly complex workloads. With higher performance and support for large-scale clustering, the chip could contribute to the expansion of AI applications and computing capabilities. Its expected commercial release and mass production in 2027 will mark an important step in the development of next-generation AI hardware.
