Kuwait Launches New System to Monitor Private Sector Wage Payments
A new centralized wage payment system has been launched by Kuwait. On September 28. The Central Bank of Kuwait announced the launch of the Kuwait Wage Payment System (KWPS). This system is designed for private sector employees in an attempt to ensure timely wage payments and strengthen protections for workers.
Private sector employees will get several benefits from it. It includes faster and more transparent salary transfers through local banks.
The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) also said that the wage payment system improves the efficiency of salary payments and strengthens the monitoring of salary transfers.
New Wage System: What Does It Include?
As per the latest official data released by Kuwait’s Central Statistical Bureau, Kuwait has around 1.84 million private-sector workers as of March 2026, including around 66,000 Kuwaitis.
The Kuwait Wage Payment System (KWPS) will create a central platform for processing and monitoring the salary payments to private-sector workers.
The new wage system is also expected to reduce paperwork and manual processes. With this, electronic salary transfers through local banks will become more efficient, while authorities will have better access to wage-payment data and can monitor compliance more effectively.
Part of Kuwait’s Wider Payment System Upgrade
The launch of KWPS is part of Phase II of the Kuwait National Payments System Project. The CBK launched the Kuwait Automated Clearing House (KACH) in January, followed by the Kuwait Dispute Management System (KDMS) in February.
KWPS is the third system introduced under the second phase of the project, extending Kuwait’s digital payment infrastructure to wage transfers and giving authorities a more centralised way to monitor private-sector salary payments.
The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) said the new system is part of a wider plan to modernise the country’s national payment infrastructure and bring it closer to international standards.
This is aimed at making a payment system which is more efficient, reliable and flexible as digital financial services continue to evolve.
