QIA and J.P. Morgan Asset Management Announce $20 Billion Partnership
Qatar Investment Authority and J.P. Morgan Asset Management have agreed to a 20 billion dollar strategic partnership spanning public equities and private credit, extending the sovereign wealth fund’s investment ties with the United States.
Under the memorandum of understanding the two institutions signed, the partnership breaks down into a 15 billion dollar public-equities mandate and a 5 billion dollar private-markets initiative focused on established US middle-market companies. On the equities side, J.P. Morgan Asset Management will build and manage customized global portfolios for QIA, drawing on its active-equity expertise, global investment platform and research capabilities. The remaining 5 billion dollars will go toward a private markets strategy in which the two firms plan to jointly provide senior financing to established middle-market companies across industrials, services, healthcare and technology.
The agreement deepens QIA’s engagement with US financial institutions at a moment when the fund continues expanding its global partnerships. In January, QIA and Goldman Sachs Asset Management agreed to target 25 billion dollars in combined investments across funds and co-investment opportunities, while QIA has also kept pursuing investments in US technology and private-market assets more broadly. According to the US Department of Commerce’s SelectUSA program, citing Bureau of Economic Analysis data, Qatari foreign direct investment in the US stood at 4.7 billion dollars by the end of 2024.
QIA CEO Mohammed Saif Al-Sowaidi said the fund is pleased to grow its partnership with J.P. Morgan Asset Management, gaining access to one of the world’s leading global equity and private credit platforms. Mary Callahan Erdoes, CEO of J.P. Morgan Asset and Wealth Management, said the arrangement is meant to support QIA’s role as a leader in global institutional investing, using J.P. Morgan’s investment capabilities across public and private markets to deliver customized, high-quality solutions.
Both firms described the partnership as a mutually beneficial framework, pairing QIA’s long-term institutional outlook with J.P. Morgan’s global investment reach, with the goal of capturing investment opportunities and generating sustainable long-term returns. QIA, founded in 2005, is Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund and invests across asset classes and regions. J.P. Morgan Asset Management, the asset-management arm of JPMorgan Chase & Co., managed 4.6 trillion dollars in assets as of June 30.
