The Islamic Development Bank has sanctioned a $439.4 million loan to finance projects in Nigeria and Tunisia.

The approvals were given in a statement published on September 29, following the bank’s 368th Board Executive Directors meeting held on September 29-30 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The loan is approved in order to extend the motorway network in the country’s northwest while strengthening road safety and access to services.

Highway network expansion takes shape.

According to IsDB, the project is expected to improve connectivity in northwestern Tunisia and make it easier for people and goods to travel between the region and other parts of the country.

The Tunisian government has been investing in infrastructure projects to improve connectivity and support regional development. The new IsDB financing will support these efforts by expanding the highway network in the country’s northwest.

According to reports by La Presse, the project is scheduled for completion in 2027. However, the technical studies for the El Kef-Tunis were completed during the first half of 2026, paving the way for the next stage of the project.
