UK Leadership Weighs In: Prince Andrew Urged to Join US Epstein Investigation
LONDON – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has added his voice to growing international pressure for Prince Andrew to provide testimony to U.S. investigators examining the Jeffrey Epstein case. While attending the G20 summit in Johannesburg, Starmer emphasized that anyone with relevant information about such investigations should cooperate fully with authorities.
Though careful not to comment directly on the former prince’s situation, Starmer stated, “As a general principle I’ve held for a very long time, anybody who has got relevant information in relation to these kinds of cases should give that evidence to those that need it.”
The prime minister’s comments come as the Duke of York continues to ignore a formal request from members of the U.S. House Oversight Committee for a transcribed interview regarding his friendship with Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in prison in 2019.
Last month, Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and military honors as the monarchy sought to distance itself from the controversy surrounding his association with Epstein. The former prince, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, previously settled a civil sexual assault case with Virginia Giuffre out of court, though he denied the allegations against him.
Two Democratic congressmen leading the inquiry—Representative Robert Garcia of California and Representative Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia—have accused Andrew of “continuing to hide” from important questions about his connections to Epstein.
In a strongly worded statement released Friday, the lawmakers declared: “Our work will move forward with with or without him, and we will hold anyone who was involved in these crimes accountable, no matter their wealth, status or political party. We will get justice for the survivors.”
The congressional investigation continues to examine Epstein’s extensive network of associates and the operations that enabled his sex trafficking ring. As international attention intensifies, the pressure on Andrew to provide testimony shows no signs of diminishing, with both American lawmakers and now British leadership underscoring the importance of full cooperation with the inquiry.
