Spain’s Air Europa Joins Growing List of Airlines Halting Venezuela Flights

MADRID — Spanish airline Air Europa announced on Monday the suspension of all flights to and from Venezuela, becoming the latest carrier to halt service following a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warning about potential security risks in the region.

The airline will suspend its five weekly flights between Madrid and Caracas starting Tuesday, a company spokesperson confirmed. Operations will remain paused “until conditions allow” for their safe resumption.

Air Europa’s decision follows similar moves by other international carriers. Over the weekend, Iberia—another Spanish airline—suspended its Venezuelan routes until at least December 1. They join Brazil’s Gol, Colombia’s Avianca, and Portugal’s TAP Air Portugal in halting flights to the South American nation.

The suspensions come in response to an FAA advisory issued on Friday, which highlighted a “worsening security situation and heightened military activity in or around Venezuela.” The notice warned that these conditions could pose risks to civil aviation at all altitudes.

Recent months have seen a significant U.S. military buildup in the region, including the deployment of the Navy’s largest aircraft carrier, at least eight additional warships, and F-35 fighter aircraft.

Spanish media also reported that the airline Plus Ultra has decided to suspend its Madrid-Caracas route, though the carrier has not yet issued an official statement.

As the situation develops, travelers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest flight information and alternative travel arrangements.
